Your Bootcamp Fitness Trainers

02Athletics fitness trainers are uber qualified and hella experienced.  02A instructors are not just fitness enthusiasts who compete in an occasional half marathon. 02A instructors have actively competed and train sport martial arts athletes competing in MMA, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Boxing, and Grappling.  We are different than all the rest, in that we have a demonstrable goal striving process for ourselves AND our awesome clients!

Your coaches will not be glorified gym teachers who obtain random on-line certifications. The 02Athletics fitness trainer team includes physicians, surgeons, post-doctoral medical researchers, lawyers, and entrepreneurs.   02A instructors are busy professionals who understand that an upward career trajectory is inextricably tied to maintaining a fit and healthy lifestyle. We train right along with you to help the whole team stay energized!

 

    • JAMES COOK (Head Coach)
      Fitness Trainer

J.D. Golden Gate University, M.A. University Colorado Boulder, B.A. Howard University

James loves to help clients at all levels reach their goals. Because James is a former professional MMA, Boxing, and full contact Muay Thai Kickboxer he has a unique outlook on achievement and motivation. James is a 2 X Golden Gloves Boxing State Champion as well as an WKA, IKF, and IKC Muay Thai Kickboxing Pro US National Champion. He amassed over 80 fights during a career lasting more than 20 years. He has competed in a number of televised bouts including on ESPN2 watch on YouTube.  James has competed the world over including all over the US Ireland, France, Turkey, Russia,  Japan, & Thailand.  James was honored to teach Muay Thai kickboxing as part of the Modern Army Combatives program for the US Army to soliders.   • MANISHA R.

B.S. in Biochemistry and B.S. Biology, University of Pennsylvania; Ph.D. in Biochemistry, UC San Francisco; Field Application Scientist, Fluidigm Corporation.

When Manisha isn't traveling the world spreading the gospel of single-cell genomics, she can most likely be found on the soccer fields of San Francisco. Outside of soccer and 02A, Manisha enjoys team sports of all varieties, camping and foraging in the California wilderness, baking, sleeping, drinking responsibly, and cooking delicious vegetarian food. She also spends a lot of time traveling on short notice and procrastinating.

B.S. in Biotechnology, UC Davis; Pharm. D., UC San Francisco; General Practice Residency, UC San Francisco; Assistant Clinical Professor, UC San Francisco School of Pharmacy.

In her spare time, Penny is known for her commitment to her family and her passion for food, wine, and outdoor adventures. If she’s not hanging out with her nieces and nephew on the weekends, then she’s out hiking, running, bike-riding, fishing, or exploring some part of nature. To keep up with her fast-paced life, Penny fuels herself by indulging in the food & drink scene of the city and has been called the "human yelp". She also enjoys cooking and hosting dinner parties. You'll never find her at a stand still because her philosophy is "Life is a journey, not a destination".

B.S in Cell and Molecular Biology, Simon Fraser University; PhD in Molecular Biology & Biochemistry, Simon Fraser University; Postdoctoral Scholar, Department of Anatomy, UC San Francisco; Teaching Fellow, UC San Francisco School of Medicine.

Oh Canada! Besides work, life for Stephanie is packed with exploring all corners of the city. This usually entails long runs as she always has a marathon she's training for in the coming months, or cycling one of the many great bike routes in and around San Francisco. Stephanie also enjoys practicing yoga, spending time with her dog and cat, baking yummy treats, and trying out new recipes to enjoy.

B.S. in Finance, West Virginia University, MBA, San Francisco State University, Controller of a private real estate trust.

Outside of 02athletics Theron practices yoga and enjoys an occasional pick up basketball game. Other free-time activities include spending time with family and friends and checking out live music around the bay area. Theron believes that he is one of a few 02athletics members who is proud to be a member of AARP.

B.A. University of Michigan, J.D. Eastern Michigan

Deborah actively competes in Muay Thai Kickboxing. Deborah co-founded an all-female fight team called Girlz Team with Happy Reynolds. Despite a grueling work schedule and a daily commute between San Francisco and San Jose, she generally trains five or six days per week. Deborah loves her work as an attorney advocating for the housing rights of the poor and mentally challenged. Deborah is also a passionate Burner who spends three quarters of the year preparing for the Burning Man experience.

B.A. Merrimack College

John actively competes in Muay Thai.  John has been training Muay Thai for 10 + years at Fairtex Muay Thai and generally trains 6 days per week. John has been an entrepreneur for the last 9 years and currently manages a mobile commerce start up in San Mateo. When John is not training or working on his business, he is working on creating the best pasta on earth.

Post-Doctoral Research UCSF, Ph.D. Scripps Research Institute, B.S. University of Michigan

Desiree is an all-around fitness enthusiast who does everything from practice yoga and train Muay Thai Kickboxing, boxing, and grappling with an all-female fight team.  Desiree also spends time volunteering at the Museum of Arts and Sciences as well cooking healthy Tofu dishes, and playing piano.

Family Practice Residency UCSF, M.D. Howard University, B.A. University of Minnesota

Happy Reynolds competed in Muay Thai Kickboxing and boxing, until she became pregnant during her residency in 2005. In 2004, she formed an all-female fight team called Girlz Team. In addition to working in private practice and for UCSF, Happy works as a ringside physician for the California State Athletic Commission. She oversees Mixed Martial Arts, Boxing, and Kickboxing competitions such as the UFC, Strikeforce, and ESPN's Friday Night Fights. Happy is working on becoming a certified Pilates instructor.
